Adolescence: A time of growth

"The mind of the adolescent becomes increasingly capable of abstract thought, of being able to view the world outside of oneself, to ask questions, and to engage in critical thinking. It is a time in which the teen struggles between dependence and independence as they attempt to forge their own sense of self and identity in the world.

This program helps to serve our youth with the questions that need to be asked as they attempt to create their own identities as young Jews in a modern world. By providing the forum for safe exploration of such questions and their answers, the sessions will help stimulate critical thought as well truly impassioned discussion, debate, and learning."

What parents say about JLI Teens:

"Our son is a fairly skeptical kid when it comes to religion... but was very drawn in by the sessions. We had many long and wonderful talks following the classes. I think it was an important experience, as he is at an age when he is rapidly forming beliefs about the world, about religion, about how individuals should behave to each other... I would recommend these sessions to all parents with teenage children." Rob N.

"My son, whose a 10th grader, found the experience interesting and stimulating. I would certainly recommend this program - it’s effective and provides a solid Jewish foundation of knowledge and ideas that any teen can relate to, and appeals to any background. You will be surprised how engaged your teen will be!" Alan S.

"Surprise, surprise! My teen loved the course. It was the first time she was encouraged to talk about real challenges that face young people. She discovered that being a Jew is a source of pride and that Torah is a well of wisdom to draw strength and guidance from." Debbie W.

"I am so impressed by this program. Do you have one for adults? Just kidding (sort of!)
...You should know that he is really getting a lot out of the program and I credit you for all the wonderful work you do with these kids... We feel very fortunate to have crossed your paths." Susan A.

What teenagers say about JLI Teens:

Elizabeth G., Age 16

"...I get to socialize with other Jewish kids my age while discussing issues important to us and learning to connect these issues to Judaism. The Rabbi is a great teacher and the discussions he leads are thoughtful and eye-opening." Erin P., Age 15

"The Jewish ideals and values that I have learned through JLI Teens became a part of my belief and ethical system... The inclusion of traditional texts into discussions of topics relevant to the modern day such as friendship and responsibility for others shows the relevancy and importance of these texts to everyday life." Will S., Age 17

"There is an incredible amount of information and knowledge that Judaism has to offer. JLI Teens opened my eyes to that and I really enjoyed it!" Andrew K. Age 15

"...I was able to gain a better understanding of the Jewish standpoint on these issues through textual readings and group discussions. I was particularly appreciative of the supportive environment that my peers provided for those who contributed to the discussions, enabling thoughtful analyses of major problems in every-day life...Thank you!"
